Sports Injury Physiotherapy
Sports injury physiotherapy at IP Physio is assessment-led musculoskeletal rehabilitation delivered by chartered physiotherapist Ilias Paschopoulos and the IP Physio team at our Soho, Marylebone, Canary Wharf and Notting Hill Gate clinics in London, using strength testing, movement analysis and load profiling rather than symptom guesswork.
Our approach to sports injuries
Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we identify the underlying drivers of your problem. Pain is where the tissue is complaining; it is rarely the whole explanation. A calf tear in a runner, a hamstring strain in a footballer or a shoulder problem in a swimmer almost always sits on top of a capacity issue, a loading error, or a movement pattern that is quietly overloading one structure.
Your first session is a detailed conversation about how the injury started, what it stops you doing, and what you want to get back to, followed by a full physical assessment of movement, strength, joint function and load tolerance. Where relevant we quantify deficits with dynamometry and force plate testing instead of estimating them by eye.
You then get a clear explanation of the findings and a structured plan: what we think is going on, why, what treatment we recommend, and a realistic timeline.
Who we work with and what we treat
We work with recreational athletes, competitive and professional sportspeople, desk-based workers, adolescents with growth-related injuries, and anyone with a musculoskeletal problem limiting what they can do.
Common presentations include ankle sprains and instability, Achilles and patellar tendinopathy, hamstring and calf strains, groin pain and hip impingement, patellofemoral pain, meniscal and ligament injuries, rotator cuff pain, tennis and golfer's elbow, and running-related overload injuries.
Treatment blends manual therapy where it is clinically indicated with progressively loaded exercise rehabilitation, movement retraining, and adjuncts such as shockwave, blood flow restriction training and EMS when the presentation calls for them. Education runs through all of it: patients who understand their injury recover better and re-injure less.
Our objective-data approach
Handheld dynamometry gives us a number for the strength of the injured side against the uninjured side, so progress is measured rather than assumed and return-to-sport decisions are made on capacity, not on the calendar.
ForceDecks dual force plates measure jump height, landing mechanics, rate of force development and left-to-right asymmetry, which is where residual deficits hide long after pain has settled.
Diagnostic ultrasound lets us look at tendons, muscles and bursae in real time in clinic, confirming the structure involved and tracking how it responds over the course of your rehabilitation.
